Change...change is good!

I love this time of the year. Teachers and students get something that most folks don't...we get to celebrate two "New Year's" - one on January 1 and the other at the start of school (which in my humble opinion should not be next week, but I digress...) I love the feeling of a clean slate. I feel as if I can start again on all those resolutions...remember those? The "New Tree" I was turning over? Well, needless to say, that new tree hasn't even begun to sprout, but it's a different story now...I get to start all over...a whole new chapter. And boy is it going to be a doozy...let me fill you in...

It all started at the end of last year. It wasn't a stellar year for me. Ya'll know that. I struggled with depression almost the whole school year and it severely affected every area of my life - but especially at school - I took a leave of absence for a few weeks. I simply survived the time I was there...I felt as if I had failed the entire group of children - my entire school for that matter. After that, I felt like I needed a change - even toyed with a career change, but I am too deep into the adoption to go there! Those of you in the adoption realm know the havoc ANY change can create with your paperwork! I volunteered to change grade levels...maybe just that change would be enough. There have been a few possibilities, but it came down to numbers. At first, I didn't think I would know for sure until the very first day, but the higher ups made the decision today. You are now reading the blog of an official (though subject to change) second grade teacher! I spent the day and most of the night in my classroom - moving books and furniture...staring at the walls...changing bulletin boards...staring at the walls - trying to get my mind ready for this - I have taught K for 7 years! This is HUGE! There will be a whole new level of independance! They can READ, TIE SHOES, WIPE THEIR NOSE, BUTTON THEIR PANTS! Believe me...I know they will still walk around with laces flopping, noses running and such, but still...such a change...

...and change is good!

I'm so excited for you! I sooooo wish you could be Isaac's teacher. I, of course, think second graders are fantastic, perhaps because I have one!! :)

I LOVE second grade! It's one of my favorite grades, too! I think you are really going to enjoy the kids. They are more independent, but they also still love school and their teachers! Congratulations!
